Made for my sister, Danielle, for Christmas, 2003. Danielle asked that I make her a quilt with something from the campus of her college, St. John’s University in Minnesota, as the theme. Using photographs I found on the school’s website and others that she sent me, I thought a striking quilt would be a representation of the beehive-shaped stained glass windows in their abbey, with a superimposed applique of the “bell banner” exterior of the church on one side. I used my own technique of piecing the beehive shapes and then appliqueing them onto the black background in this religious quilt. I love architecture, and was thrilled when my architectural quilt was selected for the cover of the college’s journal!
