Cold Stark Winter
32″ x 18″
Pieced and appliqued. Mounted on painted stretched black canvas.
Based on the view out our western windows of the old maple trees that line our driveway. On some winter days, there’s color in the snow – lovely shades of blues, lavenders, even peach. But on other days when it’s overcast, the entire landscape seems devoid of any color except white, black and a few hints of greenish-purple on the tree trunks. This tree quilt is now a nice memento of the view out my studio when we lived in the Finger Lakes region of upstate NY. Snow quilts are challenging but if you think beyond pure white, you can have fun with the fabrics.
