What caught my eye in this scene were the architectural elements surrounding the door, the old stucco facade, the old raised panel shutters, and the massive, colorful coconut husk basket of flowers attached to the side of this storefront called “Strawberry Jam” in New Hope, PA. I was able to “watercolor with fabric” this image, with the batiks. My free-motion stitches complement the piece by emphasizing the reflections on the glass and defining the cracks in the stucco. I also used a loose style of stitching around the flowers and leaves, similar to what you would find in a pen-and-ink illustration with a watercolor wash.
